Kernersville Counseling Center, PLLC is a private counseling agency passionate about providing outpatient mental health services to the Triad region. It is our mission to offer individualized, culturally and linguistically appropriate services. We work to counsel, educate and advocate for our clients. Kernersville Counseling Center provides an array of mental health services to individuals, children (as young as 2), and families in Forsyth and Guilford Counties. Our therapists utilize evidence-based practices that have been proven effective. Our mission is to work on your behalf to ensure your treatment is right for your unique situation. We believe in integrated behavioral health care, meaning that we will work with your primary care physician and other relevant healthcare providers in an effort to provide high quality, coordinated health care.

Kayla Langton, MS, NCC, LPCA graduated with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Shippensburg University. She provides play therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment for children who are experiencing a variety of behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. Kayla believes in the power of therapeutic play, and serves as an advocate in actively involving the parent(s) or guardian(s) in the therapy process. She utilizes a non-directive approach, and believes that all children have an innate drive to heal themselves. In addition, sandtray is a treatment modality that is often incorporated into many of Kayla’s therapy sessions. Her interests lie within helping children find their voice, and through play therapy techniques, she teaches children healthy ways to express their thoughts and emotions.

Tisha Bennett, Office Manager is originally from Ohio but earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Kentucky Christian College. Tisha is positive, well organized and loves interacting with people. When she isn't busy with administrative duties, she enjoys spending time with her beautiful family and repurposing furniture. 

Isabelle Ong, PhD, LPCA provides clinical counseling services to children and adolescents (ages 5 through 19) and adults individually and in a group setting. Her clinical work has a special emphasis on creative and expressive art therapies, as well as yoga and mindfulness. Dr. Ong is also trained in levels one and two of the Gottman method to work with couples. Additionally, she also has specialized training and expertise in the following areas:
          Activity and expressive art therapy
          Adjustment difficulties, stress, and major life transitions including grief, loss, and bereavement
          Body image and self-esteem issues
          Child abuse
          Chronic and acute medical issues
          Couples counseling
          Domestic violence
          International counseling and immigration issues
          Multicultural concerns and social justice
          Play therapy (individual and/or group)
          Parent training and skills or Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)

In her free time, Dr. Ong enjoys practicing and teaching yoga, arts and craft, cooking and baking, and reading, particularly epic novels. 

About Us

Laura Brotherton, MA, LPC, NCC, RPT is the founder of Kernersville Counseling Center. She graduated with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is trained in play therapy through the Multicultural Play Therapy Center at UNC Charlotte. Laura is a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and she has specialized training, experience and supervision in play therapy. Laura enjoys working with individuals on a wide array of mental health concerns and works with clients of all ages to improve social, emotional, and behavioral issues. She has a special interest in helping children and families create or restore peace within their homes by training parents on positive parenting solutions and by providing play therapy for the children. Laura considers it a privilege to work with families on such personal matters and strives to provide a supportive and judgment free atmosphere.

​Marielisa Montero, MS, LMFTA graduated with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and has worked with couples, families and individuals from varying cultural and social economic backgrounds. Marielisa is devoted to helping her clients gain insight and awareness, to access their strengths and resources, and to guide them in becoming the best version of themselves. She believes that a collaborative relationship with the client is one of the most important factors in facilitating change. Marielisa has a special interest in working with couples; helping them manage their conflict, strengthen their friendship, deepen their love and restore their intimacy.
